30th Celebrate their Centenary

The 30th Craigalmond (Davidson’s Mains) Scout Group celebrated its centenary in 2024, marking 100 years since its founding in 1924 and a century of continuous service to young people and the local community in Edinburgh.

The centenary year included a range of commemorative activities, such as a black-tie centenary dinner in October 2024, where members past and present reflected on the group’s history, as well as an international trip to the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland, giving current Scouts a chance to experience global Scouting.

An oral history project was launched to preserve memories, stories, and photographs from across the decades, ensuring the group’s heritage is recorded for future generations. The milestone was formally recognised by the Scottish Parliament, which praised the group’s long-standing contribution to youth development and community life, and the group used the centenary as an opportunity to reconnect with former members while continuing to offer Scouting through sections including Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts.
