Scouting Through the Decades: A Century of Adventure is an oral history project created to mark the centenary of the 30th Craigalmond Scout Group, supported by funding from the Heritage Lottery.

Over the last one hundred years, generations of young people and volunteers have shaped and been shaped by Scouting with our Group, and this project captures their stories - the camps, expeditions, skills learned, friendships formed, and the ways the Group has evolved alongside wider social change - preserving them for future generations.

A key aim of the project has been to actively engage today’s Scouts in exploring their own heritage, and our young people have played a central role as researchers and interviewers, working directly with former members to record personal memories and experiences. Through these shared conversations, the project has connected different generations of Scouts, creating a living link between past and present.

We have also sought to involve our wider local community, recognising that the story of the 30th Craigalmond Scout Group is deeply intertwined with the area it serves. This website, together with our exhibition and commemorative history book, is the result of that collective effort.

We are deeply grateful to all our members and alumni who volunteered in so many different roles to support this project, with special thanks to our young people who undertook training and carried out many oral history interviews. We are also immensely appreciative of Dr Sue Morrison of the Oral History Research and Training Consultancy, whose expert guidance led us through every stage of this work.

We hope that these stories capture the spirit of the Group and ensure that the adventures, values, and voices of the 30th Craigalmond continue to inspire for the next hundred years and beyond.
