Following the recommendations of the Advanced Party Report, a decision was taken to create a larger Edinburgh Area and a smaller Midlothian Area, bringing the boundaries more closely into line with those of the local councils.
In late 1968, it was agreed that the 30th would transfer into the newly formed Inverleith District, although this was not formally confirmed by the Group until 1969.
At the same time, there was a proposal to renumber all Scout Groups, under which the 30th would have become the 107th. This idea was rejected by all involved, and the long-standing group numbers were retained.
The expanded Edinburgh Area came to include the 10th Corstorphine, 26th Craigsbank, 34th St Anne’s (which later became the 71st), 43rd St Margaret’s, 23rd Blackhall, 82nd Cramond (formerly the 32nd), and the 30th.
