County Commissioner - Sir Henry Dundas Memorial Service

A memorial service was held at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh for Sir Henry Dundas of Arniston, who tragically died at sea on his way to South Africa on 5 February 1930.

The service was well attended by numerous members of the District Scouting movement, and at a subsequent special meeting of the Midlothian Boy Scout Council, the minutes recorded the profound sense of loss felt by the organisation. It was noted that “no one was more deeply interested in the Scout Movement,” and that his passing represented "a great loss to Scouting in Scotland. By his many acts of kindness, he had exemplified the Scout Law, proving himself a friend to all and a brother to every Scout, regardless of social standing."
